Born September 13, 1940, in Breckinridge County, Mr. Coomes was a son of the late Mark and Mark Melissa Mattingly Coomes. He was a member of St. Romuald Catholic Church, Hardinsburg. A son, Mark Owen Coomes, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Christine Coomes, Dayton, OH; a son, John Edward Coomes, Dayton, OH; a son, John Edward Coomes, Dayton, OH; a daughter, Linda Faye Carpenter, Dayton, OH; two brothers, Joe Coomes, Falls of Routh, and Bernard Coomes, Tavares, FL; a sister, Mary Catherine Payne, Falls of Rough; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 3, from St. Romuald Catholic Church with burial in St. Romuald Cemetery. James Franklin Harrison 1918-1998 James Franklin Harrison, age 79, of Guston, died Monday, September 18, 1998, in the Hospice Unit of Alliant Medical Pavilion, Louisville. Mr. Harrison was born December 6, 1918, the son of Joel Edmund and Cora Feltner Harrison. He was a member of New Highland Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Squires Harrison; five children, Mrs. Linda Pike, Payneville, Earl Harrison, El Paso, TX, Mrs. Gayla Cox, Brandenburg, Mrs. Kethia Stout, Battletown, and William Adcox, Kingston, SC; a brother, Glen Harrison, Guston; 11 grandchildren; and dive great-grandchildren. Services were held Thursday, October 1 at 1 p.m. from the New Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Rosebush officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Lodiburg, directed by Hager Funeral Home, Brandenburg. Pallbearers were Chris Harrison, Steven Stout, Bill Pike, Brian Pike, Brad Miller and Bradley Cox. Earl Bowlin 1928-1998 Earl Bowlin, 70-year-old Hardinsburg resident, died Thursday, October 1, 1998, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital, Hardinsburg. Born January 28, 1928 in Jellico, TN, Mr. Bowlin was a son of the late Frank and Effie Lockard Bowlin. He was retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years and was an Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rosa Mae Thomas Bowlin; stepsons, James Anthony Manning, FL, Thomas Manning, AZ, and Robert Manning, OH; stepdaughters, Bonnie Sowell, AZ, and Trudie Manning, IN; sisters, Ella Hicks and Bonnie Beasley, GA, Anna Scott, Carrie Davenport and Stella Anderson, OH; 11 stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 3 from Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg. Terrence P. Wheatley 1922-1998 Terrence "Terry" Patrick Wheatley, 76, of Aberdeen, MD, died September 2, 1998, at his home. Born at Tar Fork, Breckinrdige County, on April 19, 1922, Mr. Wheatley was a son of the late Sirrapheal A. Wheatley and Alice Josephine Ryan Wheatley. He was also precided in death by a brother, Ryan R. Wheatley, and a sister, Mary Jo Hall. He was a member of the CCC, serving in Utah, and was retired from the U.S. Army where he was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He was a lifetime member and a past district governor for the Lions Club in Edgewood, MD, a recipient of the Melvin Jones' Fellowship Award, a member of the American Legion of Edgewood, holding various offices, was a member of the First Armored Division Association, the Retired Officers Association of Hartford County, the Disabled American Veterans, the Moose Lodge of Aberdeen, the Eagles Club, the VFW Post 5831 in Hardinsborg, and was a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors are two sons, Larry F. Wheatley, Cape Cod, MD, and Gary A. Wheatley, Lutz, FL; a daughter, Lois K. Howard, Whiteford, MD; a brother Leonard P. Wheatley, and a sister, Frances E. Haskell, both of Hardinsburg; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Interment was at Bel Air Gardens with full military honors. ... Submitted Mrs. Mary Edna Davis 1909-1998 Mrs. Mary Edna Davis, age 88, of Louisville, formerly of Breckinridge County, died Tuesday, October 6, 1998, at Caritas Medical Center in Louisville. Born in Breckinridge County November 13, 1909, Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late James Robinson and Clemmie Smiley. She was a homemaker, and attended the Shively Baptist Church. Survivors are her husband, James W. Davis; a son, James Richard Davis of Elk Grove, CA; four sisters, Winnie Boyer and Mildred Hemp, both of Louisville, Ruth Jolly of Hardinsburg, and Mona Breland of Indianapolis, IN. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday, October 10 at Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home, 3601 Taylor Blvd., Louisville. Burial will be in the Kingswood Cemetery. Visitation is Friday, October 9 from 4-8 p.m. EDT at the funeral home. Mrs. Nina Medlin 1930-1998 Mrs. Nina Catherine Medlin, 68, of Springfield, MO, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday, September 27, 1998, at Cox Medical Center South. Mrs. Medlin was born May 30, 1930 in Holt, KY, the daughter of the late George N. "Buddy" Hall and Emma Rhea Hall Garrett. She was a homemamer and was a member of the South Haven Baptist Church. She accepted Christ at the age of 10 in Holt. Surviving are her husband, Hobert W. Medlin; a son, Eric Lee Medlin, a daughter and son- in-law, Lori Ann and Rod Turner, all of Springfield, MO; two sisters, Gwen Myers and Sherry Hall of Hardinsburg; three grandchildren, Tiffany Rena and Ashley Dawn Medlin of Ganado, TX, and Amanda Rose Medlin, Knoxville, IA. JOHNNIE MAYSEY 1930-1998 Mrs. Johnnie Maysey, age 68, of Cloverport, died Friday, October 23, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health Systems, Owensboro. Born September 19, 1930 in Cloverport, Mrs. Maysey was a daughter of the late Edward Gregory and Cecil Hall Gregory. She was a member of the Cloverport United Methodist Church, and a member of the Cloverport Eastern Star #143. She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Gregory. Surviving are her husband, Damon Maysey, Cloverport; three sons, Greg Maysey and Perrin Maysey, both of Cloverport, and Dan Maysey, Coral Springs, FL; four sisters, Anna Robertson, Union Star, Mildred Brown, Hardinsburg, Willie Lee Fields, Whiting, IN, and Freda White, Louisville; a brother, Joe Gregory, Simpsonville; and four grandchildren. DOROTHY ASHLEY 1927-1998 Mrs. Dorothy Ashley, age 71, of Hardinsburg, died Wednesday, October 21, 1998, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Ashley was born in Ammons, a daughter of the late William I. McHolan and Bessie Horsley. She was a homemaker and a member of the English Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Lucas, and Larry DeWayne "Cricket" Lucas, on May 6, 1981. SurviVors include her husband, Ernest Ashley, Hardinsburg; two daughters, Patsy Wilson, Pleasureville, and Lana Pollock, Irvington; four sons, Verman "Bubby" Lucas, Jr., Glasgow, Billiy Joe Lucas, Clarkson, Barry Lucas, Hardinsburg, and Gary Michael Lucas, Harned; three sisters, Maxine Bennett, Hardinsburg, Juanita Burch, Cloverport, and Tommie Sketo, Payneville; step-mother, Florence McHolan; a half-sister, Joyce McHolan; a half-brother, Larry Jo McHolan; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. KENNETH LEE LYON 1938-1998 Kenneth Lee Lyon, age 60, died Monday, October 27, 1998, at his home in Custer. Born in Breckinridge County, Mr. Lyon was a son of Carl and Ester Allen Lyon. He was a farmer. Survivors other than his parents are a sister, Jewel Anthony of Custer, and a niece and nephew, Lisa Marie and James Lee Anthony. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 29 from Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg, with burial in Trent Cemetery in Custer. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 28 at the funeral home. The family requests expressions of sympathy make the form of contributions to Hospice of Central Kentucky. Evelopes are available at the funeral home. MITCHELL C. LYNCH 1929-1998 Mitchell C. Lynch, 69-year-old Louisville resident, formerly of Big Spring, died Monday, October 19, 1998. Mr. Lynch was born April 22, 1929 in Custer, a son of the late Luther Lynch and Goldie Bennett. He was retired from Porcelain Metals in Louisville, was a member of the High Plains United Methodist Church, and a member of Custer Masonic Lodge #624. His first wife, Mrs. Martha Frances Lynch, preceded him in death in 1987. Surviving are two daughters, Margaret Riener and Lisa Wright, both of Louisville; three sons, Myles Lynch, Borden, IN, Perry Lynch, Louisville, and Stephen Lynch, New Albany, IN; five sisters, Leota Cissell, Bardstown, Kathleen Poole, Irvington, Jewell Cundiff and Janice Chappell, both of Louisville, Joyce Bandy, Bewleyville; a brother, Kenneth Lynch, Big Spring; former wife, Cora Lucas, Big Spring, who cared for him; nine grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 21 from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, Irvington, with the Rev. John Vaught officiating. Burial was in Bennett Cemetery near Custer. RICHARD ARVIN WEBB 1919-1998 Richard Arvin Webb, age 79, of Rt. 1, Irvington, died Sunday, October 25, 1998, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. Born in Breckinridge County on July 14, 1919, Mr. Webb was a son of the late Phillip Webb and Bevia Skaggs. He was retired from the Civil Service where he worked as a sheet metal worker at Fort Knox, was a former employee of Breckinridge Memorial Hospital and Breck- inridge County High School, was a member of the Irvington Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was an elder and a session clerk, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Virginia Mallory Webb, Irvington; a daughter, Joyce Frank, Cloverport; a son, Larry Webb, Irvington; two sisters, Ruby Dowell, Irvington, and Irene Henninger, Harned; a sister-in-law, Lavonne Freese, Irvington; four grandchildren, Ricky and Justin Frank, Andrea Webb and Laura Mossey; and a great-granddaughter, Carey Ann Mossey. Services were held at 1 p.m. CST Wednesday, October 28 from the Irvington Cumberland Presby- terian Church with the Rev. John Butler officiating. Burial was in Garfield Cemetery under the direction of Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg.
