LOIS L. CARMAN Mrs. Lois L. Carmen, age 73, of Hardinsburg, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Breckinridge memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility. Born in Breckinridge County, Mrs. Carman was a daughter of the late Truman and Carrie Horsley of Triplett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist faith. Her husband, Harold M. Carmen, preceded her in death in 1987. Surviving are a dauther and son-in-law, Jackie and Joey Flood, Hardinsburg; a sister, Jean Mudd, Louisville; a brother, Donald Triplett, Louisville; and two grandchildren. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 13 from Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg, with burial in Ivy Hill Cemetery. MRS. HELEN B. WESLEY 1898-1999 Services for Mrs. Helen Buckles Wesley, 100, of Danville, were held Saturday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Larry Gardner. She was laid to rest next to her husband, Henry Mark Wesley, in Sonora Cemetery. She died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville. Mrs. Wesley was born September 3, 1898, in Hardin County, the daughter of the late Martin Spalding and Rachel Tichenor Buckles. She was the widow of Henry Mark Wesley. She was a 30 year employee of Dawahares, a former elementary school teacher and attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College, was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, a member of Sonora United Methodist Church, and was active in her church, community and school. Mrs. Wesley taught school for several years in the Cloverport Elementary School. She and Mr. Wesley lived in Cloverpot from 1942 to 1951, where Mr. Wesley was superintendent of schools. They moved to Hazards where they lived until his death from cancer. Survivors include two daughters, Faye Best of Danville, and Eleanor light of Lexington; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. -- Submitted MRS. ALDRIDGE 1923-1999 EUGENE NICHOLAS FINKLER April 28, 1999 HAYDEN FENTRESS 1933-1999 Hayden Fenress, age 66, of Hudson, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville. Born February 21, 1933, in Mooke, Mr. Fenress was a son of Mrs. Bertha Tucker Fentress of Dyer, and the late Homer Fentress. He was a retired welder at Campbell-Hausfield. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Peggy Fentress; two sons, Butchie Dean Fenress, New Salisbury, IN, and Penny Lee Fentress, Somerset; five sisters, Norene Lampton, Irvington, Sue McGuffin, Constantine, Wilda Carter, Hudson, Brenda Butler and Patsy Keesee, both of Dyer; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at Watkins-Ellis-Mayes Funeral Home in Leitchfield, with burial in Hudson Cemetery. SAMMIE CROPPER 1916-1999 Sammie Cropper, age 82, of Gamaliel, died Friday, April 23, 1999, on Hwy. 60 in Harned, as a result of an auto-pedestrian accident. Mr. Cropper was born June 19, 1916, in Monroe County, a son of the late Charlie Albert Cropper, Sr. and Marjorie Emma Cassady Cropper. He was a retired farmer. His wife, Mrs. Nadine Halsell Cropper, preceded him in death December 16, 1997. Survivors include a son, Jack L. Cropper, Red Boiling Springs, TN; a daughter, Velva Dean Cherry, Harned; a brother, Charles A. Cropper, Jr., Gamaliel; a sister, Elease Cropper Powell, Red Boiling Springs, TN; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 26 at Strode's Gamaliel Chapel with the Revs. Danny Pace and Robert Cherry officiating. Burial was in the Gamaliel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Timmy Cherry, Terry Cherry, Robert Cherry, Clark Cropper, Clay Cropper and Chris Spear. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN SPICER 1925-1999 Benjamin Franlkin Spicer, age 73, of Hudson, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at his residence. Mr. Spicer was born September 19, 1925, in Ellworth, Oklahoma, the son of William Martin and Daisy Post Spicer. He was a self-employed crete mason. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Martha Embry Spicer; five sons Martin of Texas, Henry of Wisconsin, Benny, Elmer and Gus Spicer of Oklahoma; three daughters, Patricia Gillum, Oklahoma, Dorothy Massey and Rachel Self, Brownsville; a brother, Harvey Spicer, Texas; four sisters, Mary Yarborough of California, Martha Wade of Oklahoma, Stella McKenzie and Dolly Beal of Texas; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at Watson & Hunt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial was in the Hudson Cemetery. MRS. HAZEL HOSKINSON Mrs. Hazel Hoskinson, age 90 of Louisville, formerly of Dyer, died Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at Audobon Hospital in Louisville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merna Crume Hoskinson, Sr., and a son George Leonard Hoskinson. Surviving are a son M.C. Hoskinson, Jr.., Elizabethtown; a sister, Helen Haynes, Dyer, and two grandchildren, Kevin and Barry Hoskinson. Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 23 at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff, with burial in the Custer Cemetery.
