Gerald M. Dailey Col. Gerald Michael "Jed" Dailey, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Mon- day, June 28, 1999, at his home at the age of 81. Col. Dailey was U.S. Army retired, a tank commander in World War II and later an intelli- gence officer. He was born in Bos- ton, Massachusetts and was a gradu- uate of the University of Massachu- setts. He was highly decorated and received the Legion of Merit, two Silver Stars, two Bronze Stars with "V" clasps for valor, two Purple Hearts received in the battle at Kasserine Pass in North Africa, and the Army Commendation Medal. he had foreign decorations from France, Italy, Brazil, Venezuela, Paraguay and Viet Nam. He retired in 1968. Col. Dailey was the former husband of Martha Fisher Beard. Survivors include three daugh- ters, Sue Fisher Dailey, Palm Beach, Florida, Sallie Dailey Donner, and Jeanne Dailey Andlinger, both of Vero Beach, Florida, and three grandsons, also of Vero Beach. Col. Dailey will be transferred to Gawler Funeral Home in Washing- ton, D.C. for final services and mili- tary honors at 9 a:m. EDT on Friday, July 16, prior to interment at Arling- ton National Cemetery. Strunk Fu- neral Home, Vero Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Lela Virginia Dawson 1928-1999 Mrs. Lela Virginia Dawson, age 70, of Hawesville, died Monday, July 5,1999, at Owensboro Mercy Health Systems. Mrs. Dawson was born in Hardinsburg on September 20, 1928, a daughter of the late Truman Wilkerson and Rachel Woods Wilkerson. She was a home- maker and a member of the Hites Run Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Ernest Dawson; two sons, Robin Dawson, Dallas, TX, and Randy Dawson, Hawesville; a brother, William Wilkerson, Tell City, IN; three sis- ters, Annie Poole, Owensboro, Dor- othy McCarty, Yelvingtdn, and Leona Dawson, Hawesvilte. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8at Wallace Funeral Home, Cloverport, with the Rev. Sam Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Cloverport Cemetery. Mrs. Lucille Newton 1910-1999 Mrs. Lucille Newton, 88 years of age, of the Custer/Big Spring area, died Wednesday, June 30,1999, at Medco Center of Hardinsburg, fol- lowing a lengthy illness. Mrs. New- ton was the daughter of the late Coleman Bridwell and Ada Lockard. She was born November 23, 1910, in Custer. She was a homemaker, a member of the Custer United Meth- odist Church and the Custer Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Her husband, J.W. Newton, preceded her in death in 1974, as well as a son, Jerry Newton, in 1996. Survivors are two grandchildren, Michael Newton of Alabama, and Sara Dunham of California; a sister, Helena Miller, Big Spring; a brother, Elvis Bridwell, Louisville, and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2 from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, Irving- ton, with the Rev. Janet Carden offi- ciating. Burial was in the Custer Cemetery. Dan Burks 1914-1999 Dan Burks, age 84, of Rt. 2, Har- dinsburg, died Friday, July 2,1999, at his home. Born in the Holt Com- munity on October 26, 1914, Mr. Burks was a son of the late Daniel Stephen Burks and Pearl Fella Burks. He was a farmer and had previously served on the Breckinridge County School Board. A son, Steve Burks, preceded him in death July 5,1980. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bessie Pate Burks; two sons, James Lee Burks, Rt. 2, Hardinsburg, and Danny Burks, Louisville; a daugh- ter, Eleanor Harden, Louisville; a sister, Eliza Payne, Hardinsburg; and four grandchildren, Ashley Burks and Clayton Burks, Rt. 2, Hardins- burg, Bruce Harden and Lisa Fogle, Louisville. Services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 4 from Wallace Fu- neral Home, Cloverport, with the Rev. Truman Johnson officiating. Burial was in Cloverport Cemetery. Mrs. Pauline Howard 1929-1999 Mrs. Pauline Lewis Howard, age 69, of Hudson, died Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at her daughter's home in Big Spring. Mrs. Howard was born August 10, 1929, in Breckinridge County, a daughter of Arthur Lee and Annie Mae Gannaway Lewis. She was a member of the Madrid Pentecostal Church. Her husband, Zeiba Howard, preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Kasey of Big Spring, and Sue Smith of Hudson; a son, Curtis Howard of Lewisport; three sisters, Opal Lampkin of Ekron, Nawanda Noblett, Falls of Rough, and Winnie Robinson of Versailles; six grand- children, and five great-grandchil- dren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Watson & Son Funeral Home, Leitchfield, with burial in the Madrid Pentecostal Church Cemetery. Stanley Dupin 1936-1999 Stanley Dupin, age 62, of Leitch- field, passed away Sunday, July 4, 1999, at his home. He was born September 4,1936, in Breckinridge County, the son of the late Rev. Earl and Irene Lampton Dupin. Mr. Dupin was retired from the Warren Rural Electric Company in Leitch- field, was a farmer and was cur- rently working for the City of Le- itchfield. A son, Brian William Dupin, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jacyl Butler Dupin; two sons and a daugh- ter-in-law, Timmy and Kim Mercer Dupin, Lexington, and Anthony Dupin, Leitchfield; two brothers, James and J.C. Dupin, both of Le- itchfield; a sister, Juanita Joyce,. Leitchfield; a granddaughter, Kyra Dupin, Lexington, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mabel Compton Mrs. Mable Clara 'ompton, age 95, of Hardinsburg, died Tuesday, July 6 at Medco Center of Branden- burg. Mrs. Compton was born in Breckinridge County, a son of the late Jack Peyton and Mary Laura Compton Sutton. She was a home- maker and a member of the Garfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Her husband, Jess Compton, pre- ceded her in death. Survivors are three daughters, Wilma Smiley, Lodiburg, Edna Uebele, Louisville, and Thelma Wilson, Hardinsburg; two sisters, Mary Lee Kruger, Irvington, and Margaret Dowell, Owensboro; 10 grandchildren; several grandchil- dren, and several great-grandchil- dren. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8 from the chapel of Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Har- dinsburg, with burial in the Garfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and until the funeral Thursday, at the funeral home. Harold Duncan Harold Duncan, age 55, a former resident of Breckinridge County, died Monday, June 28,1999, in Sa- lem, IN. He was the son of the late Henry and Nell Duncan. A son, Harold Duncan Jr., and a sister, Mary Brown, preceded him in death. Surviving are a daughter, Gina Lane, ,Cannelton, IN; two sisters, Sue Lucas and Evelyn Duncan, Har- dinsburg, eight brothers, Nathan, James and Ernest Duncan. all of Falls of Rough, Richard of IN, Marvin of IL, Raymond of Caneyville, Hubert of Owensboro, and David of Stephensport; a half- brother, Wavie Duncan of IL, and three grandchildren. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at 2 p.m. at Huber Funeral Home in Cannelton, IN, with burial in. the McQuady Cemetery. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Triplett. Mrs. Mae Fern Caldwell Mrs. Mae Fern Caldwell, 80 year old Hardinsburg resident, died Tues- day, June 29, at Breckinridge Me- morial Hospital. Mrs. Caldwell was a daughter ofWillie and Rilla Armes Spencer and was born in Breckin- ridge County. She was a homemaker and a member of the McDaniels United Methodist Church. Her hus- band, Clarence Caldwell, preceded Survivors include three sons, James E. Ramsey, Spartansburg, SC, Jack Ramsey, IN, and Edmond F. Severs II, Lexington; a stepdaugh- ter, Janis Caldwell Blatchley, Vilonia, AR; a sister, Anna Lee El- der, Hardinsburg; two brothers, Woodrow Spencer, Ukiah, CA, and J.C. July 14, 1999 Mrs. Lucille VanLahr 1913 - 1999 Mrs. Lucille VanLahr, age 85, of Webster, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital Extended Care Facility following a lengthy illness. Born in Walters, OK, on August 26, 1913, Mrs. VanLahr was the daughter of the late George Samuel Dugan and Oma Claycomb. She was a homemaker, a past director of First State Bank of Irvington, and a member of the Webster United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. VanLahr Sr., in 1991, also three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Sammie Quiggins, Webster, and Nora Dailey, Hardinsburg; two sons, Charles A. VanLahr Jr., Fairfax, VA, and Johnathan VanLarh, Webster; eight grandchildren, Charles Robbins Jr., Hardinsburg, Lee Bramlett, Gabe VanLahr and Drew VanLahr, all of Webster, Amy Thompson, NY, Charles A. VanLahr III, VA, Amanda Shilts, Irvington, and Joseph V. Robbins, CO, and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14 from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home, Irvington, with the Rev. Alton Lawhorn officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Irvington. Jess Rigsby 1917-1999 Jess Rigsby, age 82, of Bewleyville, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Medco Center in Hardinsburg, following a lengthy illness. Born June 18, 1917 in Breckinridge County, Mr. Rigsby was a son of the late Joe "Perk" Rigsby and Pearl Vandergriff. He was a construction worker for several years and a bus driver for the Breckinridge County School System for 20 plus years. His wife, Mrs. Bernadena Priest Rigsby, preceded him in death in 1985 Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Sue Mullis, Dothan, AL, Libby Ross, Irvington, and Betty Wheatley, OK; two sons, Jesse Rigsby, Lawrenceburg, and Troy Rigsby, Hardinsburg; three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, and a great-stepgrandchild. The funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 12 from the chapel of the Alexander Funeral Home, Irvington, with the Rev. Janet Carden officiating. Burial was in Cedar hill Cemetery, Irvington. Mrs. Mildred Whitler 1905-1999 Mrs. Mildred Whitler, age 94, of Dawson Springs, formerly of Cloverport, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at National Health Care Center in Dawson Springs. Mrs. Whitler was born in Fordsville on February 24, 1905, a daughter of the late William F. DeHaven and Rose Lee Smallwood DeHaven. She was a member of the Cloverport United Methodist Church and the Cloverport Homemakers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmanuel Charles (Pete) Whitler in 1950, sons Pat in 1950, Bud (Bones) in 1984, Jimmie in 1991, Tony, Bill and a daughter, Carol Robinson in 1981. Survivors are three daughters, Sandra Robinson, Drakesboro, Mary K. Mitchell, Placerville, CA, and Nancy Haley of Walton; 17 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9 from Wallace Funeral Home, Cloverport, with the Rev. Tim Mattingly officiating. Burial was in Cloverport Cemetery. Mrs. Virginia Robinson Mrs. Virginia Eskridge Robinson, age 80, of Westview, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, in Louisville. Mrs. Robinson was born in Breckinridge County, was retired from Galante Sutdio in Hardinsburg, and was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church. Her husband, Thomas Robinson, preceded her in death, as well as two sons, John Thomas and Robert David. Surviving are a son, James Robinson, Westview; two daughters, Marilyn Aldridge, Louisville, and Julie Boggs, Richmond, VA; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and a great-great- grandchild. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9 from the Fairview United Methodist Church with burial in the Fairview Cemetery near Hudson.
