W. HAYNES, of St. Louis, Missouri, which told of the death of Willie ALEXANDER, formerly of this city (Cloverport) and Buras, this county. A similiar letter was received by the following relatives of Mr. ALEXANDER: Mrs. Mary S. HAYNES of Long Grove, Ky (unknown county) F. P. PAYNE of Cloverport, Ky George W. PAYNE of Harned, Ky (Breckinridge County) John ALEXANDER of Buras, Ky Mrs. Ola HARDIN of Cabool, Missouri (Texas County) Forrest HAYNES of Owensboro, Ky (Daviess County) The body of the letter is as follows: "I am very sorry to have to advise you of the recent death of Willie ALEXANDER. Willie left St. Louis, Missouri on September 20, 1904 for Pima, Arizona (Graham County), for the purpose of engaging in the mining business. He, with 10 others, located at Pima, Arizona, at which point they have been operating a copper mine since their arrival at Pima." I quote you below three telegrams received from Pima relative to his death: The first received on the 19th inst., and the other two received on the 20th inst. #1 - "ALEXANDER was accidently killed Thursday evening." "Wire instructions." #2 - "ALEXANDER buried, relatives notified, your immediate return useless. Boys faithful." #3 - "No joke. ALEXANDER buried yesterday. Relatives notified. Your immediate return useless. Boys faithful. Letter follows." The telegrams as noted above were addressed to Mr. CARLIN, the manager of the Company with whom the boys are working, and who is in St. Louis on business temporarily. Up to the present time, I have been unable to learn anything in regard to his death, further than the information given in the telegrams. I presume it is an accident possibly in blasting or something of that nature. Esker and Ora, his brother and sister, who are here with me, have been notified, and I presume is there nothing further that can be done as the body has been buried. I take the liberty of sending a copy of this to the Breckinridge News, Cloverport, and the Breckinridge Democrat, Hardinsburg, Ky. Regretting that I have to give you all this sad news, I am, Yours Truly, F.W. HAYNES. Page 2, Column 1 (same issue November 30, 1904) WAS BORN IN THIS CITY -- Willie ALEXANDER was born in 1880, in Cloverport. Breckinridge News, Cloverport, Ky., Wednesday, December 7, 1904 Page 8, Column 4 HOW HE MET HIS DEATH -- Particulars concerning the death of Willie ALEXANDER, formerly of this city and Buras on November 17, 1904, at Pima, Arizona, were received here Monday. Young ALEXANDER was drilling at the bottom of a 50 foot shaft, when a heavy wooden bucket, which is used for hoisting up ore and water, somehow became unfastened from the rope, and fell striking him just above the right temple. He did not suffer, for he did not regain consciousness during the three hours which he lived. He was buried in the cemetery at Pima (Arizona) on November 19, 1904.
