THOMAS -- Ft. Thomas, Ky., June 17, 1900 (Special) Pvt. Patrick M. BATES, a native of Breckinridge County, who enlisted in the U.S. Army in Louisville, Ky. (Jefferson County) on January 27, 1900, was accidently drowned in the Ohio River near this point at 6:30 p.m. the 11th inst. while bathing with two of his comrads. His body was recovered the evening of the 13th, and was buried at the Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors early on the morning of the 14th.
