Page 1, Column 4, OBITUARY
     Benjamin H. BATES, 79, died at his home in Hardinsburg, Route 3, on December 
29. 1952.  He was born in Breckinridge County on January 13, 1873, the son of
J. T. and Laura PATE BATES.  He married Miss Elmina Franklin TAUL in 1886, and to 
this union three children were born.
     Mr. BATES was preceded in death by his wife in 1928 and a son, Ernie in 
1936.  He is survived by:
his second wife, Mrs. Clara BATES
two sons:
Levi BATES of Hardinsburg, Ky
John BATES of Hardinsburg, Ky
     Funeral services were held at the Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg on 
January 1, 1953 with the Reverend Calvin H. SMITH of Leitchfield (Grayson County, 
Ky), conducting.  Burial was in the Brickey Cemetery.
