Obituary    -from the "MEADE COUNTY MESSENGER" newspaper

John BIRCHER, Jr., of Brandenburg (Meade County), Ky, age 82, died November 
10, 1960 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown (Hardin County), Ky, where 
he had been almost 3 weeks suffering from Pneumonia and complications.  He was 
born June 6, 1878 in Louisville (Jefferson County), Ky, the son of John 
BIRCHER, who moved to Brandenburg while he was very young, and he was reared 
there.  He joined the Brandenburg Methodist Church in 1898.  He spent 52 years 
in telephone work.  Surviving him are:
his wife Mrs. Bessie FOOTE BIRCHER
two sons:
T/Sgt. John G. BIRCHER, in the Air Force stationed in Japan
Gerard BIRCHER, Madison, Indiana
3 grandchildren:
Barbara Sue BIRCHER
Linda Sue BIRCHER
John Phillip BIRCHER
2 nieces and 2 nephews
two sisters:
Miss Frances BIRCHER, Pasadena, California
Mrs. E. J. APPLEGATE, Brandenburg, Ky.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 13, 1960 at the Brandenburg 
Methodist Church, and burial was in Captain (Cap) Anderson Cemetery, 
Brandenburg.  Pallbearers were his Masonic friends.
