Breckinridge News; 2/16/1881
"Gone Home"

Died - At her residence near Garfield, Breckenridge county, Ky., January 23,1881, at
6 o'clock p.m., Matilda Bruner, wife of Abram Bruner, aged 33 'years and 3 days.

Her husband loses a devoted wife and her children a good mother.  She was a member
of the Presbyterian church at Pleasant Grove, and died as she had lived - a
Christian - and was loved in life and lamented in death.  She lingered in her
illness for about ten months, sinking slowly but surely.  The close of her life was
calm as the falling of a quiet stream - like a mild summer's evening, when the sun
goes down in tranquil beauty without a cloud.  Her brief stay here below was as an
oasis in the desert of life, and though that face and form has faded from earth, the
memory of the dear departed is tenderly enshrined in our hearts.  All our hopes of
future happiness, that we once so fondly cherished, now are dead and buried with the
lifeless form of our precious one.  She was a guiding star that shed sweet rays of
light over our pathway here, and, though it has set in night, 'twill rise to beam
again under sunnier skies.  Oh, it can not be that she is dead!  The loved one has
gone t that haven of eternal rest, to dwell in the bowers of spotless purity, in a
land where the rainbow never fades!

Matilda Chaudoin Bruner was the first wife of Abraham Ackley Bruner, and daughter to
Andrew and Sarah Penick Chaudoin.
