J. COOK DEAD -- WELL KNOWN FARMER OF HANCOCK COUNTY DIED NEAR TOWN SATURDAY AT AN OLD AGE -- William J. COOK, for years a well known and prosperous farmer of Hancock County, died suddenly Saturday morning, October 1, 1904, at the home of his niece, Mrs. Loudy THOMPSON, about 2 miles south of this city (Cloverport), on the Bowling Green Road. Early in the morning, he had 3 attacks of convulsions, and died shortly after, undergoing much suffering. For 25 years he had vertigo. Mr. COOK had been making his home with Mrs. THOMPSON for about a year. He formerly resided about 7 miles west of this city, in Hancock County. for 50 years he farmed near Skillman, and was well-known in that section. He had sold his farm on Indian Creek, and also one on Blackford (Creek), but left several thousand dollare in a Hawesville Bank. Mr. COOK was born in Grayson County, Kentucky in 1829. Years ago he married Miss Parthenia RICHIE, of Hancock County. Eleven children being born to the union, but only one, Mrs. Elmina SHERER surviving. A sister, Mrs. Sarah LLOYD of Curdsville, Ky (Davies County), also survives Mr. COOK. Many friends were numbered among Mr. COOK'S acquaintances in this and Hancock Counties. He was a good citizen, and a man liked by everyone who knew him. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was an Odd Fellow. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, October 2, 1904, and the interment was on the deceased old farm near Skillman. KELLY as administrator of the estate, which is something less than $1,500. There is about $650 in money, the rest in land notes. Mr. COOK'S grandsons, Willie and Herman SCHERER, will receive the amount when of age. Willie SCHERER receiving about $1,000.
