OBITUARY

     James CRAWFORD was born in the Parish of Dalry, County of Ayrshire, Scotland 
on June 22, 1830.  His father moved to Canada, and settled at Scarboro, Province 
of Ontario, in the year 1840.  At the age of 23, Brother CRAWFORD came to 
Louisville, Ky (Jefferson County), and one year later he moved to Stephensport, 
Ky (Breckinridge County), to engage in the tobacco business in partnership with 
Charles E. COUTY, in which business he spent the remainder of his life.  In this 
business, he became acquainted with many tobacco men, and formed a great circle 
of friends.
     In 1857, he was married to Miss Sallie MORELAND, the only daughter of Joseph 
MORELAND, of Breckinridge County.  His wife lived only a year after their 
marriage.  In the year 1870, he married to Miss Anna Belle BAIN, the daughter of 
the Reverend James BAIN, D.D., of Scarboro, County of York, Ontario, Canada.  To 
them were born four children, three of whom, with the mother, survive him.  He 
also has two sisters living in Canada, and one brother, Andrew CRAWFORD, who 
lives in Stephensport, Ky.
One noteable fact about the CRAWFORD family is that the CRAWFORD brothers have 
died in rotation, and all have died at about the same age.
