Allen Dean Passes Away at Glendean. ------- Mr. William Johnson Dean, father of Mr. J. Allen Dean, of this city, died last Thursday at his home at Glendean, Breckenridge county, after a brief attack of paralysis. Mr. Dean was well known in Owensboro, having spent much time with his son here. Mr. Dean belonged to a family of prominence in this part of the state, one that has been identified with its most important agricultural interests for years. He was widely known throughout Breckenridge and adjoining counties, his success in farming and stock trading being almost phenomenal. Mr. Dean was born in Breckeridge county on January 17, 1827, and had he lived a few months longer, would have celebrated his sevety-fifth birthday. He was the oldest child of Summers and Amanda Robertson Dean, the brother of the late Henry R. Dean and half brother to Eli H. Dean. With some assistance and by industry and economy all three men accumulated large landed interests, which still remain in the family, being divided among their children. in 1849, Johnson Dean was united in marriage to Miss Mary Eliza Godman, the second daughter of Judge Godman, of Muhlenburg county, who survives him. From this union resulted nine children, two of whom, Elizabeth and Jenny, died when grown. John Allen Dean, the prominent lawyer in Owensboro; W. J. Dean, Jr., president of the Dean Tie company; C. W. Dean of Breckenridge county; Mrs. C. L. Cornwell, of Louisville, wife of Mr. Cornwell, proprietor of the rock quarry below Cloverport; Godman and Summers Dean, both residing in Muhlenberg county, and Miss Amanda Dean, are the children of this noteworthy couple. Mr. Dean and his family have been members of the Baptist church for years, indeed were considered pillars of that church in their community. For some time Mr. Dean's health had been quite frail, so his death was no surprise to his family and friends. From all sides comes testimony of this man's genial, clever dispositions and staunch traits of character. He was buried near the family home at a spot he had selected only a short time ago. Rev. Jimmie Lewis, or Irvington, preached the funeral Friday afternoon, when the interment took place.
