He had been in poor health since the first of May. About June 8, his condition became critical, and there was little hope entertained. Death was due to Brights Disease. Mr. DeHAVEN'S home was at Pattyville/Patesville (very hard to read off the microfilm here), but became ill here while on a visit. Mr. DeHAVEN was born in this city (Cloverport) in 1868, and in the early part of his life, he engaged extensively in the Tan Bark and Timber business with his father, the late Judge John R. DeHAVEN. He then was employed by a number of mercantile firms of this city. In 1894, he secured a position of guard at the State Penitentary at Frankfort, Ky (Franklin County). He afterwards was given a like position at the Eddyville Penitentary, (Lyon County, Ky) which he had at the time of his death. He always took an active interest in politics, and had many friends among the political leaders of the county and state. In February 1902, the deceased was married to Miss Talmage D. STONE of Frankfort, Ky. To this union was born one son Singularly, the child was born on Wednesday. Mr. DeHAVEN was born on Wednesday, and died on Wednesday. Mrs. DeHAVEN will remain in the city several weeks, and then return to her old home in Frankfort. Besides his wife, mother, and child, Mr. DeHAVEN is survived by four brothers: Fred DeHAVEN of Louisville, Ky (Jefferson County) Carl DeHAVEN of Terre Haute, Indiana (Vigo County) Orfila DeHAVEN of this city Wickliffe DeHAVEN of this city one sister: Miss Mamie DeHAVEN (no residence given) The funeral was held from the family residence Thursday afternoon, July 21, 1904, at 4:00 p.m., with the Reverends P. L. KING and S. O. CHRISTIAN, officiating, and the interment was in the city cemetery. Page 5, Column 2 (same issue, July 27, 1904) ADDITIONAL LOCAL: Messrs.
