She was 74. Mrs. DeHAVEN received her teaching certificate in 1929, and her life teaching certificate in 1932, records of the County Board of Education show. She taught in one-room schools in the county, and began teaching in the consolidated high-school building in Hardinsburg in the 1930's. Mostly she taught the second grade. Mrs. DeHAVEN retired in 1968. Her husband, Ballard DeHAVEN, died before her. She is survived by: one son: Huston DeHAVEN, the Assistant Superintendent of Breckinridge County Schools. three sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth BASHAM of Cloverport, Ky (Breckinridge County) Mrs. Emily MEADOR of Elizabethtown, Ky (Hardin County) Mrs. Mary CUMMINGS of Edgewater, Maryland one brother: S. B. WRIGHT of Hardinsburg, Ky 2 grandchildren The funeral was held Friday (January 14, 1983) at the Hardinsburg United Methodist Church with the Reverend Lamar MATTINGLY, Pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery. The Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg, was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. DeHAVEN was born in Daviess County, Ky, a daughter of the late Earl F. and Bessie TURLEY WRIGHT. (PLEASE NOTE): I found the burials of Ballard and Dorothy WRIGHT DeHAVEN on www.find-a-grave.com website I accessed through Ancestry.com. The posted information on Dorothy listed her mother as Lydia BIRKHEAD. As you can see, Dorothy's obituary listed her mother as Bessie TURLEY. His name was misplaced alphabetically because it was misspelled. He does have a tombstone.)
