He had been in rapidly failing health for sometime, and death was due to a general letting down of his system. Mr. DIECKMAN was born in Germany in 1843. He immigrated to this country and settled in Canada. He then resided in Illinois, Iowa, and Kansas; then he came to Breckinridge County, and settled on a farm about 5 miles from Stephensport. This was about 1890, and about two or three years ago, he took up his residence in Stephensport. He owned the flour mill at Stephensport, which was operated by his sons during his illness. He was a popular businessman, a good citizen, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. The funeral was conducted from the Stephensport Methodist Church Monday morning at 11:00 by the Reverend J. C. HOSKINSON, and the interment was in the Stephensport Cemetery. Two sisters, one in Indianapolis, Indiana (Wayne County) and one in Pekin, Illinois (Tazewell County). Additional Comments: NOTE: Pekin, Illinois is on the Illinois River across the river from Peoria, Illinois, my hometown. Many German born people went to Pekin to reside when they came to America. My ancestors included: EERTMOED & POPPINGA. I am well- acquainted with Pekin's history. DIECKMAN is another surname in the Pekin area. At least one son or grandson of Ben C. DIECKMAN went to Pekin, Illinois. Breckinridge County Cemetery Book, volume 1, published in 1991: Cedar Hill Cemetery, located high on a hill west of the city of Stephensport, Ky.
