His injuries were listed as internal, in the abdominal and left chest areas. The accident occurred on the Jerry BALLMAN farm on Highway 259 near Harned, at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. DUKE died at 10:40 a.m. the same day. According to Mrs. Edna BALLMAN, "Duke was riding on the fender of a John Deere 40-20 tractor driven by her husband, Jerry, across a field to move some hay. The front wheels went into a hole, throwing DUKE off the machine, with the back left wheel running over him," she said. BALLMAN said DUKE was conscious when BALLMAN rushed to his home to summon an ambulance. When BALLMAN returned with a wet towel to comfort DUKE, the injured man was still conscious, he reported. When the ambulance arrived, DUKE appeared to be going into shock, said Mrs. BALLMAN.
