Dyer was born September 29, 1858 at Cave Springs, Breckinridge Co., Ky. Departed this life December 1st 1943, making him 85 years, 2 months and two days old. He was twice married, his first marriage was to Mariah E. Hudson, Nov. 15, 1881. To this union four children were born, namely: Samuel W. Dyer, of Maricopa, Calif.; Edward Lee Dyer, of Richmond, Calif.; Ernest W. Dyer, deceased and Mariah Elizabeth Chafee, deceased. His wife preceded him in death fifty-one years. His second marriage was to Mrs. Nettie W. Harned, Nov. 11, 1896. To this union four children were born, Thomas E. Dyer, and Mrs. Hubert Harned, both of Custer; Mrs. Everett Pile, Buras; and James W. Dyer, of Dyer. He also leaves three stepchildren, Mrs. J. O. Bennett, Earl and Virgil Harned, all of Custer, twenty-three grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his passing. He professed faith in Christ in the summer of 1899 and united with the Methodist church at Custer. He lived a devoted member until death. He lived an honest and upright life and was always ready to lend a helping hand and good advice to his many friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, children and life long friends in the Dyer and Custer communities. Funeral services were held in the Custer Methodist churhc with Rev. Squire Whitaker officiating, assisted by the pastor, Rev. V. K. LaFon, December 3 at one p.m. The pallbearers were: Ansel Horsly, Wilbur Stone, Willard Stith, Wade Blair, Harold Minter, and Morris Harrington. The flower girls were his grand daughters: Mrs. Willard Stith, Mrs. Harold Minter, Mrs. Willard Bennett, Mrs. Wade Blair, Mrs. Russell Harned, Mrs. Morris Harrington, Misses Marcella Dyer, Alma Pile and Odell Harned.
