EVANS Katie M. POWELL EVANS, age 88, of Elizabethtown, Ky in Hardin County, formerly of Glen Dean, died on Monday, September 29, 2003 at Helmwood Healthcare Center, Elizabethtown. Survivors include: her husband, James E. EVANS of Elizabethtown. one daughter two sons two sisters: Hazel BRUNCE of Falls of Rough, Ky Molly YORK of San Antonio, Texas 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg. __________________________________________________________________ Unknown Kentucky Newspaper October 2003 SUBMITTED KATE MARION POWELL EVANS 1915-2003 Kate Marion POWELL EVANS, age 88, died on Monday, September 29, 2003 at Helmwood Healthcare, in Elizabethtown. She was born January 25, 1915, the daughter of the late Raily G. and Sarah BURNETT POWELL of Glen Dean. She attended grades 1-12 in the Breckinridge Public Education System, Maryville College, Maryville, Tennessee, and Western Kentucky University, where she received her Master of Library Science degree. She worked in public service jobs, taught Sunday School many years, taught State Training Classes, and was a substitute teacher. She was a writer, lecturer, and publisher. Her works include "A History of Green County" and "The Life of Harvey ANDERSON", as well as an untold number of Christmas and Easter plays and stories. She established the first Public Library in Menifee County, Kentucky. Mrs. EVANS is survived by: her husband of 61 years, James EVANS of Elizabethtown, Ky two sons one daughter 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren two sisters: Hazel BRUNCE of Falls of Rough, Ky Molly YORK of San Antonio, Texas A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Hardinsburg United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Powell Cemetery near Glen Dean, under the direction of the trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg.
