Mrs. Fentress a resident of Falls Church, VA., was born on October 22, 1915 in Toronto, Ohio. During WWII she served as a Hospital Social Worker with the American Red Cross. In 1946 she accepted a civil service appointment with General MacArthur’s Tokyo Headquarters in the Civil Information and Education Division. In 1952 she served with the United Nations command psychological warfare effort to educate and rehabilitate North Korean prisoners of war, then later served as Military Intelligence Analyst with J-2, Far East Command: 500th Military Intelligence Group until her retirement in 1959. She received numerous awards and citations during her Federal service career. She also taught English Literature and English conversation at Tokyo University, Tokyo Japan. Mrs. Fentress also enjoyed traveling and visited counties in the Far East, Western and Eastern Europe as well as the Middle East. Mrs. Fentress was a charter member of the Toronto High School National Honor Society. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Adrian College, in Adrian MI, was a member of the Delta Delta Delta National Sorority, Order of the Eastern Star, and blood line member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She did post graduate work at Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C. and Monmouth College, in N.J. She was an active supporter in the community, including the scouting program, her church, Special Education for children; Officer’s Wives Club, and was an active volunteer and served on numerous committees’. She was married for 42 years, and is survived by her two sons, Gary Fentress and his wife Derrian of Roswell, GA., Joseph Fentress and his wife Lyndia of Charlotte, NC, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11AM CDT at Trent- Dowell Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Shannon officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30AM CDT Saturday. Mrs. Fentress will be buried along side her beloved husband Joseph E. Fentress at St. Anthony Cemetery in Axtel,KY.
