The following is an obituary of the deceased as published in the "Republican": Washington GREGORY was born on a farm in Breckinridge County (Ky.) near Hardinsburg on August 11, 1827, and died at his home (Moweaqua, Ill.) on Wednesday, January 11, 1899 at 11:00 a.m., of la grippe, after a severe illness of 14 days. On being told by his physician of his critical condition, he expressed to his family that if it were God's will, he was ready to go. He was the son of Peter GREGORY, who was a soldier of the War of 1812. His mother's maiden name was Mary DOBSON. He was the second from the youngest child in a family of 9 children, who were noted for longevity; one of his brothers, John GREGORY, died 3 years ago at the advanced age of 86 years; his sister, Mrs. Mary ROFF, died a few weeks ago at the ripe age of 83 years. He leaves a brother Edward GREGORY, living in Pennsylvania Township (near Moweaqua, Ill.) aged 81 years old; George H. GREGORY, living in Cloverport (Breckinridge County), Ky., aged 79 years; and Mrs. Ellen CARWILE of this place (Moweaqua, Ill.), age 74 years. He became a member of the Gilead Baptist Church at Tobinsport (Perry County), Indiana at the age of 21 years. He was united in marriage with Miss Catherine GOATLEY on Wednesday, July 23, 1831 by Richard POLK, Justice of the Peace. To this union was born five children, two of whom preceded him to the spirit world. Three children with the aged wife are left to mourn him: Mrs. Lou A. COMBS, James W. GREGORY, and Scott GREGORY, who each have families, and live in this city (Moweaqua, Illinois).
