MATILDA HARDIN was born June 9, 1819, and departed this life September 18, 1878. Our hearts are filled with grief when death comes and takes from us some beloved one. Yet, even in our sorrow, it is pleasant to think of the peaceful close of a Christian life. For more than thiry years Sister Hardin had been a consistent member of the M. E. Church, South. She was one who realized that, "Religion never was designed to make our pleasures less." Not that she was worldly-minded, or that she loved the gay pleasures of earth, but that amid the sorrows and disappointments of life, she was cheerful and happy. This feature of her disposition made her a pleasant companion for the young people, who always found a hearty welcome at her home. We would not forget to mention another trait of her character, that of an untiring energy. She possessed a frail looking body, but one that was capable of executing the purposes of an unbending will. This made her a successful house-keeper. She taught her children by example as well as by precept the importance of being industrious. She suffered long and severe. But all her affliction she displayed Christian fortitude and resignation. It was my privilege to visit her and pray with her during her sickness. A short time before her death one of the neighbors came in and prayed with her. She was very happy and shouted the praise of God. She died without a doubt in regard to the future welfare of her soul. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord." She left her family a rich legacy - a good name, a good example, and a good testimony as to her prospects for heaven. She leaves a husband and seven children. May Heaven's richest blessings rest upon them. Her funeral was preached by the writer to a large number of weeping friends, from John xiv: 1-3. Daniel L. Collie. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ky/breckinridge/obits/h/hardin12231gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/kyfiles/
