HERNDON, 91, BURIED, MONDAY Descendant of First President Buried in Washington Graveyard Near I'ton ------------- Mrs. Georgianna Washington Herndon, 91 years old, and a direct descendant of John Washington an uncle of George Washington, first president of the United States, died at the home of her son, Jesse M. Herndon in Irvington, Breckinridge county, Ky., on Saturday evening at 6 o'clock. She was buried on the 200th anniversary of the birthday of George Washington, in the Washington graveyard near Irvington. The Rev. E. P. Deacon, pastor of the Methodist Church, Irvington, officiated. Mrs. Herndon is survived by her son and a daughter, Mrs. Sue Waller of Hopkinsville, Ky. The Washington family of which Mrs. Herndon is a descendant migrated to Kentucky from Virginia. She was married to Richard S. Herndon, a Virginian, and descendant of Governor Digges, Governor of Virginia in 1655. The Herndons and Washingtons were considered among the most aristocratic families in Breckinridge county. Richard S. Herndon was an extensive farmer, and built the first brick house in this county, the brick being made on his farm. They entertained extensively, having as many as thirty and forty guests in their home at one time. for several years Mrs. Herndan (should be Herndon) had been an invalid and confined to her home.
