CARRIE KENNEDY Garfield -- The death of Mrs. Carrie NORTON KENNEDY, February 16, 1947, at her home, was a terrible shock to her family, church, and community. Mrs. KENNEDY was the daughter of Mr. Levi and Molly HAYNES NORTON (deceased), and widow of the late Roy KENNEDY. She died at the age of 64 years, 5 months, 6 days old. She professed faith in Christ at the age of 10, and united with the Freedom Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she remained a member until death. Her Christian service in her church has been outstanding and unquestionable. She was a charter member of the Freedom Ladies Missionary Society. She was the organizer and leader of the first children's band at Freedom, which is now known as the Royal Crusader's Band. Mrs. KENNEDY'S family has been one of outstanding Christian influence in service in the Freedom Church. Her father, her brother Berry NORTON (deceased), and her husband all have served as ruling elders in the church. Her son, Elza B., is now an elder and Clerk of the Session. Mrs. KENNEDY lived most gracefully. Her pleasant personality gained for her the love and respect of both saint and sinner. It can be said of her in the language of the Poet: "Her death was the crown of life, quietly she fell asleep Like some river, widening toward the sea; Calmly and grandly, silently and deep, She left us to join eternity.
