BOY DROWNS AS TRACTOR OVERTURNS IN FARM POND --
     Orville LUCAS, Jr. age 9 of Harned, was drowned Friday, August 10, 1979 
when the tractor he was driving overturned, pinning him beneath the water of 
a farm pond.
     Young LUCAS, his brother, and another playmate were playing at the 
Allen H. WILSON farm near Harned while their parents were at work on the 
farm.  According to the report, one of the boys told WILSON the accident 
occurred when young LUCAS lost control of the tractor, and it flipped over 
the bank into the pond.  Unable to swim, the boy was pinned beneath the 
tractor in approximately six feet of water.  WILSON reported the accident 
sometime later.

     The body was recovered at 4:30 p.m. by divers Jerry SCHOLOSSER, Jim 
ALLEN, and D. J. ALLEN, all members of the Leitchfield Rescue Squad.  Deputy 
Sheriff Kenneth LUCAS, said the time of the accident is uncertain.  Young 
LUCAS is survived by:
his parents, Mr & Mrs Orville LUCAS, Sr.
a half-brother:
James Earl ALLGOOD
a step-grandfather:
Jessie ALLGOOD, all of Harned
     Funeral services were held on Monday, August 13, 1979 from the Trent-
Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
