He was standing on a swinging scaffold painting the girders of the bridge and reached up to set his bucket on top of the girder so that it would be out of his way in lowering the scaffold. In doing this, it is supposed he made a mis-step, lost his balance and fell to the ground, a distance of about forty feet. Life was not extinct when he was picked up, but he died in about ten minutes thereafter at the Cloverport Hotel, where he was taken. Very little is known of the man or of his family. He has been with the company for some time, but he never told any one where he lived, only that his home was in Virginia. Mr. Gould, Superintendent of the Bridge Company came down Sunday morning, bought a lot in the cemetery and provided for his burial. Rev. Shelly conducted the funeral Sunday afternoon in the presence of a large crowd of both ladies and gentlemen. Flowers were strewn on his grave by gentle hands and the prayers of the sympathetic hearts went up for the absent loved ones of the dead stranger.
