Burns Funeral Home
Bernard Mattingly, 79, of Hardinsburg, formerly of Cloverport, 
passed away, Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Hardinsburg Nursing 
and Rehabilitation in Hardinsburg.

Bernard was born in Cloverport on June 29, 1938. At an early 
age, he was raised by his stepfather and 
mother, Roland (whom he considered his father) and Viola 
McManaway Smith. He was a minister at the Cloverport 
Church of Christ for many years. As a young man, he loved 
playing baseball and basketball and was considered 
a very talented athlete. After marrying his sweetheart, 
Tavia Dubree Mattingly they had three sons and a daughter. 
During the son’s formative years, he loved coaching them in 
baseball and when his grandchildren arrived he carried on 
the tradition and didn’t miss a game. He was an AVID UK fan, 
going to flea markets and one of his favorite past times was 
fishing.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, 
Vera Kennedy; sister, Liona Turpin & Joyce King.

Leaving behind to mourn his passing, but celebrating the 
full life that he lived is his sweetheart, Tavia 
Mattingly; sons, Mickey (Cheryl) Mattingly of 
Hardinsburg, Ronnie (Leila) Mattingly of Harned, 
Jeff (Tracy) Mattingly of Hardinsburg; brothers, 
Lawrence (Lougie) Smith of Hardinsburg, LeRoy Smith 
of Lewisport; sister, Rosetta Cravens of Owensboro; 8 
grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral service for Bernard will be 10:00 am, Saturday, 
July 15 at the Cloverport Funeral Chapel with Bro. 
Matthew Hart officiating. Burial will follow at Cloverport 
Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family 
from 4:00 – 8:00 pm Friday at Cloverport Funeral Home and 
from 8:00 am until service time at Cloverport Funeral 
Home Chapel.
