Vincent MERCER, age 19, of Kingswood, and Percy ARMES, age 35, of near Mook, were moving a steam traction engine, weighting eight or ten tons, and while crossing a ditch that platform on the back of the engine dragged on the ground and broke loose, throwing them between the platform and the engine, one under each wheel. It is thought that Mr. ARMES, who was driving, pulled the throttle in reverse when the platform broke loose and the heavy engine backed on the men, killing them both instantly. The saw mill was owned by Mr. MERCER'S father, and was being moved from the farm of Murray MOORE near Mook, to another location. Mr. MERCER was born July 21, 1921, a son of Mr. & Mrs. Ed MERCER of Kingswood. He was married to Miss Frances Hope McDONALD on March 11, 1939, who survives. Also surviving are: his parents four brothers: Holmes MERCER of Brandenburg, Ky Ed MERCER in the parental home Fred MERCER in the parental home Bobby MERCER of the parental home one sister: Jean MERCER A brief service was held at the home on Tuesday, the Reverend Wilson Smack, pastor of the Pilgrim Church at Kingswood, officiated. Burial was in the Coyles Cemetery near McDaniels. Mr. ARMES was a son of Mr. & Mrs. J. R. ARMES of Elizabethtown in Hardin County, Ky. He is survived by: his widow, Mrs. Eva LASLIE ARMES one son: Percy ARMES, Jr. his parents three brothers: Robert ARMES of Elizabethtown, Ky Homer ARMES of Elizabethtown, Ky Pearl ARMES of Elizabethtown, Ky three sisters: Mrs. Denver DAVIS Mrs. Ava LASLIE Miss Rhea ARMES Funeral services were conducted at the Fairview Methodist Church on Wednesday, the Reverend Finley Hardison, pastor, officiating. Services at the grave were in charge of the Masonic Lodge. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.
