Mrs. Munford was the descendant of a very aristocratic family. Her father was Henry Washington, a descendant of George Washington, the first President. Her mother was Miss Bates, whose father was a very wealthy land owner in Breckinridge county, owning practically all of the land where the city of Irvington is now located. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Washington had a handsime (handsome) home on a large acreage of ground near Irvington. During their life time their home was the scene of many select social functions in Breckinridge county. Their home was richly furnished, some of the furnishings are regarded today as select antiques. Mr. Washington at his death was a member of the State Constitution convention. In 1851 Mrs. Munford was married to Theophilis Munford, who at that time was interesting in Grayson Springs. They later moved back to Breckinridge county and purchased a farm. After his death Mrs. Munford purchased a home in Irvington. Ten children were born to this union. Four of whom survive. The are Misses Emily and Ellen Munford, of Irvington, Mrs. Glovie Wrather, of Dallas, Texas, and Mrs. Evans Posey, of Los Angeles. She also has one sister, Mrs. Annie Herndon, of Irvington. Member of Church 82 Years Mrs. Munford had the remarkable distinction of being a member of the church eighty-two years. She was converted in early womanhood and united with the Methodist church at Bewleyville, and in later years joined the Baptist church, continuing her membership in this church until death. She was greatly loved by people of all walks of life who recognized her sterling qualities of womanhood and as a christian. Mrs. Munford was very skilled in needlecraft and she had a handsome collection of fancy work which she had made, some of it in her latter years. She was a great reader too, and kept up with the current events. Up until a few months ago Mrs. Munford retained all of her faculties and was a very remarkable woman for her years. Just recently her vision became impaired by her weakened physical condition due to senility. The funeral was held at the home. The Rev. Ray McKay, of Louisville officiated. Interment was held in the family burying ground at the Washington homestead.
