EX-POSTMASTER OF HARDINSBURG DEAD AT 78

Marshall NORTON, age 78, former Breckinridge County School Superintendent and 
former Hardinsburg Postmaster, died Saturday, September 24, 1960 at his home 
in Hardinsburg (Breckinridge County), Ky., after a years' illness.
Mr. NORTON, after teaching 25 years, was elected Superintendent of 
Breckinridge County Schools in 1926, and served that office through 1934.  
When he became superintendent, he and his family moved their home from 
Westview (Breckinridge County), Ky. to Hardinsburg.

In 1935, during his first term in office, President Franklin D. ROOSEVELT 
appointed Mr. NORTON postmaster of the Hardinsburg office.  This position he 
held until he retired November 1, 1952.  He was a member of the Hardinsburg 
Methodist Church.  He received his education in the public schools of 
Breckinridge County and Kingswood College.  Mr. NORTON was born at Westview, 
the son of the late Robert and Mary DAVIS NORTON.

The funeral services were held on Monday at the Dowell Funeral Home of 
Hardinsburg and burial was in Ivy Hill Cemetery.

his step-mother, Mrs. Sallie NORTON, Harned (Breckinridge County), Ky.
a half sister:
Mrs. G. P. MACY, Harned, Ky.

Marshall and his wife Mattie have a tombstone.
