OBITUARY

     Miss Lucille POWELL, a 71 year old Glen Dean, Ky resident of Breckinridge 
County, died at her home there on Tuesday, April 17, 1984.  Mrs. (should be 
Miss) POWELL was born in Breckinridge County on April 8, 1913, a daughter of 
the late Raily G. and Sarah Jane BURNETT POWELL.
     Early in life, she taught school in Tennessee.  She owned and operated a 
gift shop in Gatlinburg, Tennessee for eight years before accepting a position 
with the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville.  She was a research analyist 
for the Federal Trade Commission in Wasdhington, D.C., before her retirement in 
1973.
     Among other accomplishments, she wrote a play which was produced in a 
Washington theater; she wrote a novel, although it was never published.  She 
also wrote and had published a pamphlet on Glen Dean, and was a history and art 
enthusiast.  Prior to her illness, she visited each summer at the theater in 
Washington.
She is survived by:
five sisters:
Nellie Ray BENNETT of Petersburg, Illinois
Patsy BENNETT of Cincinnati, Ohio
Mollie YORK of Cincinnati, Ohio
Kate EVANS of Greensburg, Ky
Hazel BRUNCE of Falls of Rough, Ky
and several nieces and nephews.
     The funeral will be held on Thursday, April 10, 1984 from the Trent-Dowell 
Funeral Home in Hardinsburg.  Burial will be in the Powell Cemetery, Glen Dean.
