F. SATTERFIELD, ESQ. Mr. Thos. F. SATTERFIELD, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Cloverport, died at his home in this city last Sunday, November 9 (1890), after a short illness. Mr SATTERFIELD was in his 73d year. He was born at Princeton (Caldwell County), Kentucky where he married his first wife, Miss CASH, of the same place, who bore him two children, one of whom, Mrs. Annie BROWN, of this city, is now living. His second wife, was Miss Elizabeth E. ALLEN, who with a large family of children, most of whom are grown, are left to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent husband and father. Mr. SATTERFIELD moved to this city in 1853, since which he has lived a highly respected member of the community endearing himself to all by his social qualities and upright life. Truly a good man has fallen among us. Ripe in years and experience, but active and laborious up to the beginning of his short illness, he died with the harness on. Mr. SATTERFIELD was a wise counsellor. He possessed sound judgement, and a great broad heart. His hand was always extended in kindness, and his tongue spoke words of cheer and sympathy to the distressed all around him. If any were sick, his visits were frequent. If they were aged and infirm, his open, kindly face and gentle voice were often a comfort. In the public meeting--in the counsels of his church--in the affairs of life, his advice was always sound and wise. Of large public spirit, he was always ready to aid in all enterprises to the extent of his ability. The death bed scene was like that of the Christian patriarch. Conscious fully of his condition and surroundings up to almost the last moment, his aged locks flowing upon his dying pillow, admonishing those around him with words almost from the shores of eternity, it was a scene impressive beyond degree. Closing such a life, who had greater right to leave the dying message to wife, children, and friends. And from what source could they come more impressively. They were words reflecting the light of the Great White Throne. The loss of such a man to his family and the community, seems almost a calamity.
