He was in a second story room at his home when the deed was committed, and was found in a dying condition a few minutes after the shot was fired. Dr. A. A. SIMONS was summoned and arrived several minutes before the wounded man drew his last breath. The physician made every effort to save his life, but it was impossible as the bullet had passed through the body within a few inches of the heart, and had lodged in the spinal column. Mr. SATTERFIELD died about 1 o'clock. It is believed by the family and his friends that Mr. SATTERFIELD was temporarily insane when he shot himself, and they can assign no direct cause for the act. He had been in poor health for sometime, and this seemed to have saddened him. On Tuesday he acted strangely on several occasions and his family thought he was not at all himself. He ate little at dinner Wednesday, and then went upstairs to his bedroom. The shot rang out a few minutes later. Members of the family rushed upstairs to his room. He was sitting on the bed with the pistol in his hand. Before he expired he told them that he was forced to commit the act. Near him was found an envelope on which he had written, "I was forced to it." The news of the killing was a shocking surprise, as SATTERFIELD was known as a model young man. He was self-sacrificing in the extreme for his invalid mother, and several sisters whom he resided with. His brothers and sisters are: Tom SATTERFIELD of Cloverport, Ky Luther SATTERFIELD of Cloverport, Ky Charles SATTERFIELD of Herrin, Illinois (Williamson County) James SATTERFIELD of Pineville, Ky (Bell County) Mrs. Lizzie JACKSON of California Mrs. Viola JACKSON of Cloverport, Ky Miss Laura SATTERFIELD of Cloverport, Ky Miss Rena SATTERFIELD of Cloverport, Ky Mr. SATTERFIELD was about 37 years of age and unmarried. For several years he had been a member of the local A.O.U.W. Lodge. The funeral was held from the residence at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, January 1, 1904 by the Reverend S. O. CHRISTIAN of the Baptist Church. The A.O.U.W. Lodge then took charge of the body, and the enterment was in the Murray Graveyard.
