Simmons, 78, Falls of Rough, who died July 17 (1968) at the Breck- Haven Nursing Home in Hardinsburg. Funeral - July 19 at the Macedonia Baptist Church, Dowell Funeral Home, Hardinsburg Burial - in the church cemetery, Rev. Charles Payton officiated. Pallbearers: James Willis, Wendell Tilford, Harry Powell, Rodney Willis, Everett Obenchain, and James Evans Born in Breckinridge County, he was married to the former Miss Vonnie Harl. He was a farmer and member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. Surviving are: his wife: Mrs. Simmons of Falls of Rough one daughter: Mrs. Gladys Dalton, Louisville 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren one brother: Polee Simmons, Falls of Rough one sister: Mrs. Grace Eskridge, Louisville (Oscar and Vonnie had two children, Mary Gladys Simmons and Oscar Vernon Simmons) Additional Comments: Please note: Miss Vonnie Harl was the second wife of Oscar W. Simmons. Oscar's first wife was Fannie Mae Clark. Oscar and Fannie married on 8 Jan 1908 in Hardinsburg, Breckinridge County, Ky. Oscar and Fannie divorced after having two sons, Herman Simmons born 17 August 1909 at Vanzant in Breckinridge County, and died 8 Nov 1959 in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio. Herman never married; and their second son is Dennis Simmons who went by "Denver", who was born 22 Oct 1912 at Vanzant, Breckinridge County, Ky and died 8 Jan 1977 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. Dennis Simmons married Harriet Agnes Sweet 28 May 1935 in Mt. Vernon, Knox County, Ohio, and had 8 children. Fannie Mae Clark Simmons and her two sons moved to the Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio area shortly after her divorce from Oscar, and eventually remarried in Akron, Summit County, Ohio to Daniel Ellsworth Unkle. Fannie and Daniel had no children. Fannie Mae Clark was born 15 Dec 1887 in Breckinridge County, Ky and died 8 Feb 1961 in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio. Fannie is the daughter of William Edward "Bud" Clark and Martha Angeline O'Dell who are buried at the Hopewell Cemetery in Ohio County, Ky which is near Askins in Breckinridge County, Ky. I just wanted to clarify that the survivors in the above obituary are not the only family that Oscar W. Simmons had who survived him. I am in contact with Oscar's granddaughter, Norma Jean Simmons Demetrakes, who is a Clark cousin of mine. Written by Peggy L.
