Breckinridge Herald News; December 12, 1894
We are sorry to say that God has seen fit to call away from us our lived friend, Dr.
James Skaggs who died at his home November, 15, 1894.  He was 67 years of age and
was afflicted for several months.  All was done for him that could be done.  He left
a wife and nine children and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.  Dr.
Skaggs will be missed at home and by all who knew him.  He made himself pleasant
with everybody.  Many pleasant hours have I spent around his family circle but alas,
he has departed from us forever.  No more will his pleasant voice sound like music
in our ears.  He has gone but his memory lingers with us like a blessing and a
prayer
