David Owen Smith, age 70 of Custer,KY died Wednesday, 2-18-2009 at his 
residence. He was born in Breckinridge County,KY on 1-28-1939, the son of the 
late Owen Howard and Catherine Veach Allan Smith. He retired from building 
construction. He was a handyman who enjoyed gardening and raising tobacco.
 
He is survived by 3 children: Davida Hayes and Martin Smith of Louisville,KY
Rhonda Gwen Phillips of Killeen,TX
6 grandchildren: Christopher Owen Hayes, Heather Renae Hayes,Shane Douglas 
Hayes,Devin Wayne Phillips,Quinn Nolan Phillips and Kylie Lynn Jenks
1 sister: Brenda Meeks of Brandenburg,KY
3 brothers: James Smith of Hardinsburg,KY
Norman Ray Holt of Brandenburg,KY
Ellis Kimball Smith of Garrett,KY
 
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 2-21-2009 at 3PM CST at Trent-
Dowell Funeral Home with Rev. Harry Dooley officiating. Visitation will begin 
at 1:30PM CST. Burial will be in the Custer Cemetery.
