Thomas Wheatley was born on March 6, 1928 in Hardinsburg KY. He married the love of his life, Joyce Dyer Wheatley in 1948. They spent 67 years together before her passing in 2016. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, his parents, his brothers, Bobby, Jody, Charlie, Pat, and Leo and his sister, Marty. He is survived by his three children, Glenda Isaacs (Tad) of Dahlonega GA, Jim Wheatley (Linda) of Nicholasville, KY and Janet Simms (Dan) of Duluth GA. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and his sisters MaryAnn Johnson of Hardinsburg, KY and Ursula Alexander of Louisville KY Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was known for his warm smile, his friendly personality, his enthusiasm for living life to the fullest. He was always surrounded by friends. Tom began his career with PPG and Ditzler Automotive Finishes in 1962. He advanced from a salesperson to National sales manager. His job took him many places, but he always knew that he wanted to one day, return to the area he was born to be near friends and family. After 30 years with PPG, he retired and he and Joyce returned to Breckenridge County. They bought the old Pate House and spent years remolding it and making it their home. Over the years, they entertained hundreds of guests in their home. One of their favorite things was sitting on their front porch swing, watching the sun set over the Ohio River. They enjoyed traveling. They purchased a motor home and traveled to every state except Alaska and Hawaii. Tom was an active member of his community. He served two terms as Mayor of Cloverport. He was a member of the Cloverport City Council, and County Extension Service. He served on the City Health Clinic Advisory Board, the County Industrial Board and the Breckenridge Memorial Hospital Board. He was a founding member of the Cloverport Main Street Program and lobbied to secure many government grants for the town’s renovation projects. He was a member of the Lincoln Trail Area Development District Board of Directors and received their annual Palmer (Pete) Peterson Memorial Award for outstanding member in 2005. He was awarded The American Hometown Leadership Award in 1999. He was a member of the Kentucky Antique Car Club, The Knights of Columbus and the Saint Rose Catholic Church Council. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. The family will receive friends Monday, April 17, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 (Central Time) at Cloverport Funeral Home, 208 East Main Street Cloverport, Kentucky. A Rosary Service will be 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM (Central Time) on Tuesday April 18 at St. Rose of Lima Church 118 Chestnut Street, in Cloverport, KY with Father Dan Kreutzer officiating with a burial at Calvary Cemetery. A lunch reception will follow the funeral at St. Rose Church.
