WHITEHOUSE died July 11, 1903 at Ormoc, Island of Leyte, Philippine Islands. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1901, and on August 19 would have been 26 years of age. For gallant service, he was recently given the rank of Corporal in Company E, 18th U.S. Infantry. He was born and reared in the county. His mother and family now reside in this city (Cloverport). His mother is Mrs. Rosa W. WHITEHOUSE. He died of amoebic dysentary in the post hospital. Additional Comments: Information from www.wikipedia.com Ormoc City (or City of Ormoc), in the Province of Leyte in the region of Eastern Visayas of the Philippines. I did not find a tombstone for James or his mother, Rosa, in the Breckinridge County Cemeteries, volume one, published in 1991. The death notice did not say whether James's remains was sent home, or he was buried on the base.
