The provisions for a meeting House were made in the will of Bartlett A. Basham, Jr. in his will, and after his death his wife Nancy deeded the land for the meeting house. We were taken to the site of the Meeting House and shown the place where it stood and also the location of fairly large cemetery near by. No sign of the church remains, and hardly any sign of the cemetery. All stones were old field stones, and the plot was unfenced, out in a pasture. After a diligent search, five of the stones were found to have initials and dates partially readable scratched on the rocks. It seemed to read as follows: 1875 ----------------- MEM B 1731 F 23 D94 S14 ----------------- A. E. B. B. F. 4 94 D. F. 1796 ----------------- Wife M. F. 8 ----------------- M. E. ----------------- Mr. Smiley, who took us to the cemetery, said that his grandfather had told him that the one grave, which had a rock wall around it was the grave of the man who had built the church. Believe this was grave of Bartlett Angel Basham, Jr., who died in 1847. His will written in 1847 and some of his heirs were selling some of his property in Jan. 1848. His wife was Nancy Farmer, they were married in Bedford County, Va., believe others burried there awere his widow; William S. Smith, his wife Nancy F. Basham Smith; daniel and Joicy Basham Armes; Littleberry & Polly Basham Basham; Stephen and Nancy Smith Butler.
