James Cox Watlington was a son of Nathaniel Reed Watlington (b. in Virginia) 
and Judith Tolliver Cox (born in Breckinridge County, Kentucky).  Breckinridge 
County, Births, compiled by Frances T. Ingmire, indicates he was born on 11 
June rather than 11 July.  He married Bettie West prior to 8 March 1878, and 
they had a daughter, Daisy.  On 31 October 1894, James Cox Watlington married 
Rebecca Ricketts at M.E. Church South, Union Star, Breckinridge County, 
Kentucky.  James Cox Watlington is buried in the Union Star Cemetery, Union 
Star, Breckinridge County, Kentucky.  The informant identified on the death 
certificate, Mrs. Blanch Payne, may be his niece Cleona Blanche Basham Payne, a 
daughter of James Cox Watlington's sister Maria Frances Watlington and Obediah 
Peyton Basham.
