Contributed by Jan W. awest1@tampabay.rr.com Date: May 2000 ***************************************************************************** The following transcription was sent to me by a cousin, Mr. William Bowman. Mrs. Abram H. Bowman was Pauline Newman Bowman. Abram H. Bowman, Jr, her husband, was the founder of Bowman Field airport at Louisville, Ky and a pioneer in the aviation industry. He was the son of Abram Hite Bowman and Mary Callahan, and grandson of Jacob W. Bowman 1818-1848 and Mary Jane Field. His great grandparents were Jacob Bowman, the first of the family to settle in Bullitt Co, Ky and Nellie Tilford. After Nellie died, Jacob married Pamelia Buford Tilford, the widow of Weir Tilford and Nellie's sister-in law. They had a daughter together, Permelia B. Tilford, who did not survive childhood. The Tilford surnames are descendants of Weir Tilford and Pamelia Buford. The Bowman surnames are descendants of Jacob Bowman and Nellie Tilford. The other surnames are probably sons and daughters-in-law, and their children, but at this date, I cannot confirm this. The transcription is not dated and does not give any information about the Bible itself. I believe it to be accurate, the names and dates conform to my own knowledge and research. It is slightly confusing. Under births it says Negroes - Ages. The first two names are not familiar to me so I believe they were servants. All the names following, I believe to be family members. The notes in the body are in the original transcription. Bowman-Tilford Bible, owned by Mrs. Abram H. Bowman, and presented to the Filson Club by her. Typed by J.
