CEMETERY/Settler's Gap, Shepherdsville, KY

Located in the Settler's Gap Subdivision, off Hwy 44 East, in Shepherdsville. This Cemetery 
is easily located by the 4 ft high cement wall surrounding it, although one might mistake it 
for a building foundation at first. It has been cleaned up, and easily accesible. 

The following five names are all one one stone, with the family name "SMITH" on it, and the 
inscription "Requiem Aeternam Donaeis Domine"

Aususta St. Genevieve 1847 - 1862
J Russell  1838 - 1838
Robert Milton 1809 - 1866
Susan Phelps 1815 - 1895

**REQUIEM (rest) is a noun, not a verb.  It is in the nominitive case, and therefore the subject 
of the sentence.
 AETERNAM (eternal) is an adjective, not an adverb.  It agrees in case and therefore modifies the 
noun REQUIEM.
 DONA (give, grant) is the verb.  It is in the imperitive.
 EIS is a personal pronoun in the accusative case and is the direct object of the sentence. 
 It is third person plural (them), not first person plural (us).
 DOMINE is a noun in the vocative case--the person being addressed--and is therefore rendered "O 
Lord."
 Therefore, the literal translation would be "ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO THEM, O LORD."
This is a standard Roman Catholic prayer for the dead.  The second part of it is "et lux perpetua 
luceat eis" which means "and let perpetual light shine upon them."

There is also a symbol on his headstone that has the letters "L S H T  L S S" around a 
circle, inside of a wedge shaped figure, with a blunt bottom. If anyone knows what this 
means, please contact me.
