Shelton Family Cemetery #1 Pg 54 - 59 Information provided by Paul Urbahns. (ATHS) The Shelton cemetery located in Radcliff, Kentucky east of the old Louisville and Nashville Turnpike, US 31W and north of the present location of the Mill Creek Baptist Church. Located on land John Marion SHELTON purchased from a man named HARGAN, but it was William O. COWLEY that issued the deed to Shelton (Deed Book 42, pp 95 dated 19 Dec 1870). It is possible that Hargan was living on the property as the deed spe- cifies that Shelton could take possession of the 96 acre tract on 1 Mar 1871. William O. COWLEY obtained the property from John COWLEY by deed on 1 Jan 1852 (Deed Book 2, pp 147). According to that deed John Cowley obtained the land from Alexander and Smith GILMORE. The cemetery was started by John Cowley and continued to be used by the community through four owners. The listing below comes from memories of individuals living in the area, public records and the few graves that are marked with engraved stones. Compiled by Thelma Bennett SOUTH, Ruby Atcher BENNETT and Paul URBAHNS. Special thanks to Richard BRIGGS and Mary Elizabeth Bennett HOWEY. Part of the cemetery is enclosed by an iron fence erected by the estate of John Marion Shelton. The chain link fence was purchased by Zetta Mae Shelton BENNETT in 1958. Graves located within the iron fence.
