Louisville, July 7, 1888 Mr. Lyman Draper - I did not know either Guy Phelps or John McDowell. I heard them spoken of many years ago, they lived in Bullitt’s County, Kentucky near Shepherdsville. I have no knowledge of their descendants. It is probable that David Meriwether who is still living, can give you some information about the persons named. As to James Burkes who lived on Beargrass Jefferson County and died there some forty years ago. He left two sons and one daughter. All of his children are dead. His oldest son - John Burkes died some three or four years ago in Henderson County leaving a family of several children, the other son died some years some years childless. The daughter married a man by name of Tunstall, he is dead and his widow is living in Jefferson County near St. Matthews. Meriwether can give you more information about the Burkes than I can. Maj. John Donne lived in Porterville [?] from my earliest recollection. At his death which occurred about fifty years ago he was nearly 70 years of age, he had been a [?] Pilot many years before his death. John Joynes [Jouner?] who was a lawyer and at one time mayor of city of Louisville and for many years Judge of the City Court of Louisville, died some eight years ago, about the age of eighty-one. He was a son of Patrick [Joyes?] who settled in Louisville about the year, 1786. I know know nothing of John [Tuel?] and John McManns. My health is feeble especially in account of warm weather. Respectfully yours, Jas I. Harrison by C.J.
