Letter from Lucian Minor Parrish to his daughter, Fannie Parrish and her husband, Frank Carrithers Porter: Mt. Washington Ky. Mar 16th 1885 Dear Frank and Fannie. Your postal received, and was very sorry to hear that Nud was not atall well. I was so in hopes that he had out grown his old spells of coughing and was growing up strong and healthy, but Ma was the same way with her cold this winter. She had the night sweats, but did not take any thing for them and she has gotten entirely over her cold cough and night sweats in fact she is about as well as she has been for a long time and I was sorry to hear that the rest of you were complaining but as you spoke of Nud in particular, I came to the conclusion that he was the worst off and therefore noticed his case first. but I hope by this time you are all getting along better and will soon be up to see us. You seem to be dreadfully alarmed about the measles at Smithville. and up here we hardly ever think about it. There has been several cases down there, but nobody has died from it and nobody has had it up here. Charlie got a postal from Edna the first of last week stating that they would be down the following Saturday but later in the week he got another saying that it would be impossible for them to come. So Ma and me and Christie took dinner with Mr and Mrs Rhoads, Lillie Graven and Lizzie Hough were here and got dinner for the boys. Lillie has been staying with us for a week but was sick last week and not right well now, but has gone to school today. Katies breast has gotten well enough for the baby to nurse it. and you would not know the baby now it has got so fat and lively. And now Fannie if you think Nud would like to come up home and stay awhile and Frank needs my help about his work you could let me know and I will send Preston down and Nud could ride the horse back, if he is able to come that way if not we could make some other arrangement. Write by return mail if convenient and let us know how you all are, yours affectionately love to all. L.M. Parrish Note: The Nud referred to in the letter is Nud Iverson Parrish, son of L.M. Parrish and Mary Elizabeth Shoptaugh and sister of Fannie Parrish Porter. Preston is Preston Burkes Samuel Parrish, brother of Fannie and son of Lucian Minor Parrish and Mary Elizabeth Shoptaugh. The Charlie referred to in the letter is another son of L.M. Parrish, Charles Orion Parrish. Katie may refer to Catherine Ridgeway Parrish, w/o William Franklin Parrish who was another son of L.M. Parrish, but I do not know that for sure. Submitted by Marabeth Porter Plowman
