STOVALL vs William PENNEBAKER. The jury said the defendant [PENNEBAKER?] was not guilty of speaking the slanderous words as alleged. On 10 Aug 1791, p555, the Court of Quarter Sessions said John B. STOVALL was to pay Harmon GREATHOUSE, Samuel ELDRIDGE, John GALLOWAY, and John FRED, each, 25 pounds of tobacco for one days attendance as witnesses for him against William PENNEBAKER; William PENNEBAKER to pay Joseph HARRIS and Nicholas CRIST, each, the same. 16 Mar 1792, p165, HOPKINS vs WISE. Thomas OVERALL claims one day and John FRED, two days witness for the defendant.
