Nicholas CRIST married Ruthy BRISCOE 21 Apr 1795 - I have wondered if she might be an older daughter of Gerrard’s and therefore Nicholas is appointed guardian for his brothers and sisters in law? CRIST researchers might be able to tell me if that is true? I also find Samuel BRISCOE m. Nancy CRIST 5 Jan 1815 in Bullitt Co. Bullitt Co. KY Court (Personal Notes) The BRISCOES are said to have have early ties to the Charles Co./St. Mary’s Co. area of Maryland as well as Virginia. By the 1760's or so they seem firmly established in old Frederick Co. VA but are seen throughtout the northern neck of Virginia. While I am quite certain all the early KY BRISCOES are one family I don't know how they all fit together. The ones selling off the McMILLIAN land above undoubtedly are sons of Dr. John BRISCOEwho was married to a McMILLION. I have seen her name given as both Frances and Ann. Her family had some sort of ties with the HARRISONS that also came early to old Nelson Co. but I don’t know the exact relationship. There is also a Walter BRISCOE who is around early and often in Hardin Co. and he may be another child of Dr. John's - I have some deeds that show Dr.. John as witness on the “Opeckon” in old Frederick Co. and Walter is a chain carrier. Walter does the stopover in SW PA/NW VA on the way to KY. He is assessed in Bedford Co. PA/Springhill Twp in 1773 . with a number of families who will send shoots early old Nelson Co. including Richard & Ephraim ASHCRAFT, Robert & Edward BROWNFIELD, William & Benjamin BRASHEARS, William CASE, Michael CRESAP, Nathan and Henry FRIGGS, John & William GARRARD, Benjamin & Capt. John HARDIN, Tunis & Barnet NEWKIRK, Jesse ROOD/RUDE, Samuel STILLWELL, Obediah TRUAX, Henry & Abraham VANMETER, Samuel BRIDGEWATER, Thomas HARGAS, Thomas KENDALL, Samuel MERRIFIELD, Jonathan and Ebenezer PADDOCK, John SHIVELY, William TEAGARDEN. 25 May 1778 at a court held in Yohogania Co. (which was the then borderland between what is now WV/SW PA) the court proceedings show numerous old Nelson Co. names along with Walter BRISCOE - Joseph BEELER Sr. and Jr., Gabriel COX, Benjamin FRYE, Meshack CARTER, Paul FROMAN, Walter SPARKS, Thomas APPLEGATE, Zachariah CONNELL, Samuel WELLS, Joseph WELLS, John SPRINGER, Zebulon COLLINGS, Henry NEWKIRK, John DECKER, Nicholas CRIST, Spencer COLLINGS, Benjamin KIRKENDALL. I think there was a Henry and an Edward BRISCOE as well very early on but don’t know where they fit in. Dr. John also had a Hezekiah but I don't know if he ever made it to Kentucky. While John BRISCOE seems very tied to old Frederick Co. his wife’s family, the McMILLIANS lived in Prince Wm. & Stafford on branches of the Chappawamsick and Quantco and they were surrounded by old Nelson Co. names - the closest being Philemon WATERS, John OVERALL, Cuth HARRISON, the BOTTS. Also in the same place are MILLIANS/MILLIONS and I would suspect they are McMILLIONS who drop and add the Mc when it suits them but am not certain. The early BRISCOES who come to Kentucky were there by 1782 (and perhaps earlier). They make strong showings in early Nelson Co. and are also over in early Mercer Co. as so many early Nelson types were.
