Deed Book I p. 40 Whereas on the 18th day of April 1836 there issued from the Clerks office of the Bullitt Circuit Court and Execution # 376 in the name of Anthony SHAWLER, Administrator of Jacob SHAWLER dec'd against the Estate of Jacob HUFFMAN and Catharine his wife, late Catharine JOHNSON, Administrators of Felix JOHNSON dec'd and Martha JOHNSON and Charlotte JOHNSON infants of the said Felix JOHNSON dec'd returnable 11 Jun 1836 and was for the sum of Two hundred dollars damages nine Dollars eleven cents and costs --- Eight Dollars Forty five cents which execution has on Credit on the --- thereof for Eight six dollars paid 20th William HILL Sheriff of Bullitt County on the 22 April 1836 nine oclock A M Upon which execution the following return of the Sheriff is endorsed: I called on Felix JOHNSON's Admrs. for payment of this Execution, they had no assets at hand and did not expect any more come to hand I then by the direction of Plaintiffs and Defendants also levied this execution in the undivided interest of Martha and Charlotte JOHNSON infant heirs of Felix JOHNSON dec'd in and to ninety eight acres now lying on Wilsons creek in Bullitt County, Said interest amounts to about Sixty five and three acres of land, which I advertised for sale on a credit of three (?) months at the Courthouse door in Shepherdsville and on the fourth day of July 1836 being the first day of the Circuit Court and after having caused the same to be valued according to law by Ephraim NAPPER and John STICKLES valuation herewith filed and made , I sold said land to Peter TROUTMAN for one hundred and thirty eight dollars and fourteen cents which satisfied this Execution. I cried the land --- would pay the debt for a less number of acres and no person bid at all, I then took a sale bid of said TROUTMAN agreeable to law with Jacob HUFFMAN as security . Now for and in consideration of the sum above have conveyed the said sixty five acres to Peter TROUTMAN. James COMBS D. S. for Wm. HILL SBC Recorded 30 Oct 1837 I think the clerk got tired of writing this towards the end and got sloppy so I had some trouble reading some of it. I do think that is one of the STICKLES rather than a SHICKLES. Those two families unfortunately lived in the same general area. Yet another unpleasant task for the sheriff to go to the courthouse and "cry" land that his neighbors (and sometimes his relatives) were about to lose. Bullitt County Deed Book M p. 26 Whereas Henry HUFFMAN, Son of Elizabeth HUFFMAN and James HUFFMAN dec'd, died seized of a tract of 100 acres of land laying in Bullitt County joining Thos. BAYNES old tract and being part of HARRISON's large tract on the Rolling fork - see deed from HARRISON's Hrs. to HUFFMAN on record in the Bullitt County Court office and said Henry HUFFMAN left no wife or children and left his said Mother and five brothers and sisters as his heirs - his father, said James HUFFMAN, having died before him - and his sister Elizabeth HUFFMAN one of the five heirs married William GOLDSMITH and they have sold their undivided interest in said tract of 100 acres of land to Benjamin FRENCH for the sum of Forty five dollars paid in hand.
