Deed Book D p. 274 For and in Consideration of the sum of five hundred Sixty two dollars fifty cents in hand paid the receipt I do hereby acknowledge Have sold and delivered to JOSEPH A. BROOKS of Bullitt County a negro man slave named SAM aged about twenty four years and I Covenant to and with s’d BROOKS his heirs etc. that s’d negro SAM is a slave for life and that he is sound and healthy and free from all and every kind of bodily defect so far as I know and do also Covenant to and with s’d BROOKS That I will and that my heirs Executors etc. will warrant and forever defend said negro man slave to him his heirs etc. against the claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever.
