Deed Bk C; p 495 NEWTON; VANSDALL; CARMICHEL; McCLERY; LILLARD; HALBERT This Indenture of bargain and sale made and entered into this 12th day of October 1818 Between Peter NEWTON and Polly his wife of Bullitt County Kentucky of the one part and Polly, Coty, Sally, Jonathan and Nancy VANSDALL heirs & legal representatives of Christopher VANSDALL deceased of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Peter NEWTON and Polly his wife for and in consideration of the sum of ninety three pounds in trade, the full receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, Hath this day granted bargained & sold and by these presents doth grant bargain & sell unto the aforsd Polly Coty, Sally, Jonathan & Nancy heirs as aforsd one hundred and seventy and three fourths acres of land situate lying and being on CARMICHELS Creek waters of Chaplain, and bounded as follows. To wit Beginning at two dogwoods spanish and white oak trees corner to Alexander McCLERYS survey thence East one hundred and twenty four poles to two white oaks and two sugar trees on a brushy ridge, thence south o ne hundred and fifty poles crossing CARMICHELS Creek to two sasaafras and two spanish oaks on John LILLARDS most northwardly line of his one hundred acre survey made by Virtue of said entry thence west forty poles to a Cherry hickory and sugar tree thence with his line south one hundred and thirty four poles to his corner on the most northwardly line of his survey of two hundred acres to two walnuts thence with a line of the same West 87 poles to an ash and hickory on CARMICHELS line. thence with the same North two hundred and fifty four poles crossing CARMICHELS Creek to the Beginning. To Have and to Hold the said one hundred and seventy acres and three fourths of land to the said Polly, Coty, Sally, Jonathan & Nancy VANSDALL heirs as afrsd to them and their heirs forever together with all the privileges, hereditaments and Involvements thereto in any view appertaining and belonging and the said Peter NEWTON and Polly his wife for themselves and their heirs do warrant and forever defend the title to the said land to the said Polly, Coty, Sally, Jonathan and Nancy heirs as afersd from themselves and their heirs or any other persons whatever claiming by them or under heirs or them. In Witness whereof they have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and date above written Peter NEWTON [seal] Polly [X] NEWTON [seal] I James Halbert Clerk of Bullitt County Court in the state of Kentucky do certify that on the 12th day of October 1818 Peter NEWTON & Polly his wife a party to the foregoing Indenture of bargain & sale came personally before me in my office and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned - and she the said Polly being examined as the law requires declared that she freely relinquished her right of dower of in and to the said land. Whereupon I have truly Recorded the said Indenture together with this certificate in my said office as required by law.
