Calhoun Secretary of War I Alfred METCALF District of Kentucky and sole Judge of the Bullitt Circuit Court do hereby certify that this day Henry FIELD came before me and declared under oath that he was a Citizen of the United States and a resident of the County of Bullitt aforesaid, that he enlisted as a soldier in the State of Virginia in the revolutionary army in the fall of 1775 for one year and served during that time in that capacity in Capt. John GREEN's company in the first regiment of the Virginia line on continental establishment that in the face of the year 1776, the term for which he enlisted having expired he left the army, but was not furnished with any regular discharge, that he is now sixty five years old feeble & infirm and that from his reduced circumstances he needs the assisstance of his county for support. Abraham FIELD also made oath before me, that the said Henry FIELD did serve as a soldier in the revolutionary army in the company of Capt John GREEN in the first Virginia regiment during the time of one year from the fall of the year 1775 until the fall of the year 1776 Col Richard TAYLOR also made oath before me that the said Henry FIELD was a soldier and served as such for about a year as the said Henry has [ page 7] above stated in his declaration and that he said TAYLOR was a lieutenant in Capt GREEN's company while the said Henry served therein as a soldier In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this twelfth day of May 1818 ALFRED METCALF State of Kentucky & Bullitt Circuit Towit I George L. POPE Clerk of the Court for the ciecuti aforesaid do hereby Certify that the Hon Alfred METCALF whose signature is attached to the above Certificate was at the time of Signing the Lawful Circuit Judge for the fifth Judicial district in the State aforesaid and sole Judge for the circuit Court held in the County of Bullitt And that due faith and credit is and ought to be given to all his legal acts as Such In Testimony Whereof I have hereunto Set my hand an affixed the Seal of my office at the Courthouse in Shepherdsville this Twenty Second day of May 1818 and in the Twenty fifth year of the Commonwealth of Kentucky George L. POPE CBCC ======================================================== [page 8] State of Kentucky Henry CHILD a pensioner of the United States by Certificate dated the 10th day of February 1819 at Eight dollars per month came personally into this Court being a Court of Record and Delivered a Schedule of his Estate which the Court values at Fifty six dollars and to which the said Henry FIELD made oath agreeable to Law Whereupon it is ordered that the said Schedule and oath be recorded and Certified towit On this 28th day of May 1821 personally appeared in open Court being a Court of Record for the County of Bullitt in said State by the common law and statue laws of the state, Henry FIELD age seventy years residing in Bullitt County who first being Sworn according to Law doth on his Oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows. He entered in Captain John GREEN's Company (in the fall 1775) in the first Regiment of the Virginia line, on Continental Establishment of which Richard TAYLOR was Major and Patrick HENRY Colonel. He served in Said Regiment until the fall 1776. He then enlisted in the same Regiment for three years. The Regiment at that time was Commanded by the aforesaid John GREEN. After serving about three months he was taken from the Ranks (by) General FINNEY who was stationed at Williamsburg for the purpose of Riding & Carrying express He served to the end of the Time for which he enlisted and was discharged at Williamsburg. The number of his Pension 6713 and the date of his original application was on the 12th day of May 1818. And I do Solemnly swear that I was a Resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with Intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provision of an act of Congress Entitled an act to provide for Certain persons engaged in the land and Naval service of the United States passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any one in t rust for me any property or security, contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is Contained in the schedule hereunto annexed and by me subscribed towit Two Cows & calves $20. one stray mare valued at $13 12 hogs $13 one small pot and kettle $3 6 old chairs $1.50 one ax, [ page 9] 1 hoe & one plough $4. 1 table $1 6 knives and forks $1.50 making altogether the sum of $56. The decarant is by occupation a farmer. His wife is aged about 56 years and is able to do but little he has been failing in strength & Constitution for some years past. He has living with him one Son aged fourteen years who is sickly and partly blind and not able to do much. He has in all 12 Children four five & eight daughters all are healthy as men and women Commonly are except the son who lives with him but he draws no Support from them Signed Henry FIELD State of Kentucky I George F. POPE Clerk of the Bullitt Circuit Court do hereby Certify that the foregoing oath and the schedule thereto annexed are truly Copied from the Record of the said Court, and I do further Certify that it is the opinion of the said Court that the Total amount in value of the property exhibited in the aforesaid Schedule is fifty six dollars. BROOKS a Justice of the peace for said County and State Sucky FIELD a resident of said County and state aged Seventy four years on the nineteenth day of January 1839 who being first duly sworn according to law doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 7 1838 entitled "an act granting half pay and pension to certain widows". That she is the widow of Henry FIELD dec'd who was a private in the Army of the Revolution and who served in said army as is detailed in his Declaration made in Bullitt Circuit Court on the 28th day of May 1821 and his Pension Certificate for $96 per year will most particularly show. He was on the Roll of Pensioners in Bullitt County & State of Kentucky at the time of his death. The original pension Certificate was delivered to the office for paying D ivisions when the last payment was made in this applet court as his widow or to his admors, and she cannot now procure the original to show its date or No. but she refers to the facts of record on file in the War Department to show said Henry FIELD was in the Virginia Continental Service. She further declares that she was married to the said Henry FIELD on the fourth day of March Seventeen hundred and Eighty nine, that her husband the aforesaid Henry Field died on the Twenty Seventh day of May Eighteen hundred and twenty three, that she was not married to him previous to his leaving the service but the marriage took place previous to the first of January Seventeen hundred and ninety four, viz at the time above stated affiant states that in consequence of bodily infirmity she is not able to appear before the Court to make this declaration Sucky [X] FIELD ========================================================= [Page 11] May 13, 1932 BA - J/ A__ xxxxxxxxxxxx Henry FIELD Mr. James F. LaSalle Street Chicago, Illinois Dear Sir; Reference is made to your letter in which you request information in regard to Henry FIELD of Virginia, a soldier of the War of the Revolution. You are furnished herewith the history of the only Henry FIELD or FIELDS of Virginia, that is found in the Revolutionary War record of this office. The data contained herein were obtained from the papers on file in pension claim W 8811 based upon the Revolutionary War service of Henry FIELD. He was born February 3, 1755, place not stated. He enlisted in the state of Virginia (no definite place given), in the fall of 1775 and served as a private in Captain John GREEN's company, Colonel Patrick HENRY's Virginia Regiment, length of service one year. He enlisted in the fall of 1776 and served as a private and express rider in Colonel John GREEN's Virginia Regiment, length of service three years. He was allowed pension on his application _____ May 12, 1818, at which time he was living in Bullitt County, Kentucky. He died May 27, 1823 The soldier, Henry FIELD, married __[blotted out]__ Stafford County, Virginia, his second wife, Sukey Waller WITHERS (the name of his first wife is not given). Sukey Waller WITHERS was born January 10, 1765 and was the daughter of James and Sukey WITHERS. Henry FIELD's widow, Sukey, was allowed pension on her application executed February 23, 1839, then a resident of Bullitt County, Kentucky.
