Washington today, owned partially by Gayle TROUTMAN. I believe in early days there was one in Shepherdsville. The building that they were in before the present location is the one that is next to the Baptist Church that they are trying to move... FROM "History of the Families of Bullitt Co" "...Mary CARROTHERS, became the first woman in Kentucky to become an embalmer and funeral director. She married William Sanford MCFARLAND who owned a coffin shop on Main Street..." "...It was then passed down to their sons William, Sam, and John...William continued to operate the funeral home along with his son, Grigsby MCFARLAND until Williams death in 1937. Grigsby and his wife Elizabeth LLOYD were operating the home when A. Gayle TROUTMAN married their daughter, Elanor, and joined the operation in 1960. ..." "the MCFARLANDS sold their buisness to their competitors, the McAFEES in June, 1969. At that time, Gayle went to work for them until March 1, 1975. Gayle and Elanor bought the McAFEE funeral home and changed the name to McFARLAND - TROUTMAN. " The McAFEE's Funeral Home was located where the present day McFARLAND-TROUTMAN Funeral Home is now, and the "old" McFARLAND - TROUTMAN was located a block up the street by the Baptist Church. Both are still standing.....
